Twitter is Stupid...

I'm not ambitious enough to update this blog regularly, so if anyone wants to follow me, find me on Facebook. What little I have going on will be up there.

BTW, I'm making the prediction that 2010 will be the beginning of Twitter's downfall. Watch for it!

Twitter

I don't know if I completely understand the phenomenon that is Twitter. It just seems the same as a blog or message board, but it limits you to 140 characters. Maybe that's the appeal, not having to write a long post in a blog about what you are up to... rather, you write a quick snippet when the moment strikes you.

I'm going to try posting on Twitter regularly, just to see if I can keep with it (more than my blog). Follow me at: http://twitter.com/adamfogg

Bye Bye Water Filter

See the picture to the right? What looks like a boring piece of copper pipe is the result of my awesome handy-work :)

I recently remembered that we have a "whole-house" water filter that we've never changed the filter on. Took a look at it tonight and gagged. It contained some brownish water and a sludgy substance settled at the bottom. Now this could just mean it's doing it's job and keeping crap out of our water, but I doubt it.

First thing I tried to do was unscrew it... no go. The rubber ring that seals it probably fused the container closed.

I couldn't stand the thought of that filter mucking up our water any longer, but what to do? I could replace it, but I don't want to deal with replacing a filter every two months... so let's just get rid of it!

I went to Lowe's and bought a 2 ft length of 1/2" copper pipe, and two couplers. I already had all the other equipment I needed (blow torch, solder, flux, pipe-cutter) from the baseboard pipe bursting in the living room a couple years back.

Took a couple hours, but I'm done! I'm sure if a plumber looks at this job they would see a mess, but I know I'll sleep (and shower) much better knowing that thing is gone.

Okay, I'm tried of all the crap in my house. I've made a rule that I have to sell, give away or throw away something every day. I'm gonna keep a log here to see if I can stick to it.

Ice storm photo

Ice storm photo

Photo from the aftermath of the storm

I wish it was snowing right now...

...cause right now it's 31 degrees and raining. All the trees are
covered in ice and I can't sleep because of all the loud cracking
noises their limbs are making every minute or so. Every once in a
while I hear the loud thwomp of a nearby tree losing another branch.

Oh and the power is out, of course.

Takes me back! Hope we get power restored quicker than in Maine a decade ago.

Wheeee!

Fender Strat

I've been practicing the acoustic guitar for over a year now, so I've decided I want to mess around with an electric guitar. So after looking around at reviews, I decided to get a Fender Stratocaster.

I ended up getting the HSS model (with a 'Humbucker' pickup, A.K.A. the Fat Strat). It's brown starbusrt with a maple fretboard and it looks beautiful. Sounds good too.

The Amp is a Fender G-DEC and has a whole bunch of pre-set tones built-in, which means I don't have to mess with a half-dozen dials every time I want to change the sound of the guitar.

Now all I have to do is learn some non-acoustic songs (Blowing in the Wind and Horse with No Name don't sound really sound correct on an electric).

Restringing the Guitar

The strings on my guitar looked a little dingy, so I decided to take the plunge and restring my guitar today (using well reviewed 'Elixir' brand strings). Haven't ever replaced strings before, but it was fairly painless. Hopefully I did it correctly.

Not sure if I like the sound of my guitar now (yes... I did tune it). I'll have to see what it sounds like when the strings get a chance to stretch a bit.
